Request to Present Dreams Delayed Report - Letter to Ontario Human Rights Commission

Categories: Advocacy

Dear Chief Commissioner DeGuire,

On behalf of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Trustees, I am writing to express our appreciation for the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s leadership in advancing equity and human rights in education, and to formally request your participation in a presentation to the Board during the 2025–26 school year.

The OHRC’s recent report, , has prompted important reflection and action across the education sector. In response, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Trustees passed a motion reaffirming our commitment to addressing systemic anti-Black racism and discrimination, and to supporting the implementation of the report’s recommendations.

As part of this motion, which is included below, the Board has requested that the OHRC present the Dreams Delayed report and its findings to Trustees in the upcoming school year. We believe this presentation would provide valuable insight and guidance as we continue our efforts to foster safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environments for every student, particularly Black students who continue to face systemic barriers in education.

In addition to this request, we are also sending a letter to the Ministry of Education urging them to issue a public response to the Dreams Delayed report and to provide clear direction to all education duty-holders across the province.

The ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø would be honoured to host you or a representative from the Commission at a future Board Meeting or special session. Our staff would be pleased to coordinate with your office to identify a suitable date and format.

Thank you for your consideration,

Neethan Shan
Chair, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø
