Family Reading Club at Kensington Community School

Categories: News

The Family Reading Club at Kensington Community School is off to an inspiring start for the 2025–2026 school year. Every Tuesday morning from 8:00 to 8:35 a.m., families gather in the school library to read together before the day begins.

Students arrive with parents, caregivers, and siblings, settling into cozy spaces with books in hand. The simple act of reading side by side creates a joyful start to the day while also building connections among families. For newcomers in particular, the club offers a welcoming space to meet others, feel part of the school community, and celebrate the many languages spoken at Kensington. With books available in multiple languages, families are able to share stories in English or in their home language.

This before-school tradition is more than just reading; it’s community building. Parents, students, staff, and partners, including Kensington Kids Early Learning Centre, are all part of the experience. Together, they are fostering a love of reading that will carry throughout the year.

Family Reading Club is open to everyone in the Kensington Community School community, and it’s proving to be a truly special way to begin the day — and the school year — with literacy as an important focus.
