The 吃瓜黑料网 has proudly recognized Islamic Heritage Month every October since 2016. Across Canada, Islamic Heritage Month has been celebrated in various ways since 2007, and in Ontario, it was formally established through the in November 2016.
This year’s theme, Rooted in 莫m膩n (faith), Rising in Am膩l (hope), invites students, staff, and community members to reflect on the strength of faith and the power of purposeful action. It encourages learning about Islamic traditions and values while fostering a sense of hope and unity.
The official 2025 Islamic Heritage Month poster, featured below, was inspired by winning submissions from Belma, a Grade 11 student at York Mills Collegiate Institute and member of the 吃瓜黑料网 Muslim Student Voice Advisory Council (MSVAC), and Adam, a Grade 9 student at R.H. King Academy.
The poster design features a golden olive tree, a symbol widely recognized across Muslim lands and described in the Qur’an as a “blessed tree” (24:35). It represents steadfastness, nourishment, and spiritual blessings. At the heart of the image is the phrase: “The tree of sincerity is in the heart: its branches are actions; its fruit is a good life and everlasting peace.”
This quote, adapted from the teachings of 14th-century Damascus scholar Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya, emphasizes how inner sincerity leads to meaningful actions and positive outcomes. A dove carrying an olive branch, also depicted in the poster, symbolizes peace and shared aspirations for justice and harmony, which are values deeply rooted in Islamic teachings and embraced universally.
Throughout October, a variety of educational opportunities will be offered to students across the 吃瓜黑料网 to explore Islamic history, customs, and contributions. These include workshops and classroom resources designed to deepen understanding and celebrate the rich heritage of Muslim communities.
